Electric cars and solar power help grid: SLOW charging at night, solar generation in the day

EV-PV is a slogan for off-peak charging of plug-in EVs and daytime production of energy to help the grid meet daytime peak load. The utilities have to plan for the peak — which is maximized in the summer daytime, about 10 AM to 6 PM, depending on the utility and the latitude. They need to meet this daytime peak, in California, never more than 45000 mW of load. But if they build generators, they can only amortize them over the 2 to 6 hours of usage in summer, meaning that the electric is much more expensive, dirtier and potentially dangerous. DWP has for years solved this problem by pumping water up to Lake Castaic (and other locations) during the night, with power from the dams of Washington via the Western States (DC) power grid. China is emulating this great idea: at night, pump the water up using cheap wholesale electric; the next day, when and if needed, the pumps turn into generators, with a loss at most of 20%. This is the most efficient way of “storing” electric, NOT batteries or the hoax of the “smart grid”. But Solar Power and Electric cars, if there were enough of them, would SOLVE this problem before it developed! Solar produces when and where it’s needed; suburbs would export power, like a great generator, to the cities! EVs would soak up unused nighttime generation, helping the grid amortize big generators and avoid bringing them down, an expensive and dirty process.

@cyraje tis true tis true. It sucks to be beholden to them thats for sure. some please are starting to make DIY panels easier and cheaper. Maybe this will help push things along.

EV and solar panels are a perfect marriage

Why complain about the enemies of solar and then rely on those enemies to make it feasable for you to have? Thats kinda biting the hand you need to feed you isnt it.

Charging stations at work parking lots.
Changable battery racks, own lease or rent. Spare battery rack alwas on standby charge. Carport solar google roof.
