Dan, my question is if I buy the habor freight kit like in the video I am wondering if the charge controller can stay connected to the battery all the time? I have an RV on my property that is not used for a few weeks at a time and This might be a way to keep my batteries in it good when I am away. Hauling a generator to the woods every time is getting old…….Thoughts?
ook i like your video but how many panels do i need for a refrigerator , three air conditioner, 3 tv, 2 computers and 10 bulbs.. or how many batteries , i’m trying to live wwithout the energy of the company

The panels are <20% efficient (most efficient around 9:30-10:30 AM) . The life span <15 years due to degradation. The amount of energy was used just making them takes many years to gain back from the sun rays.
Unpredictable, unreliable.
Even if PV will be as cheap as a can of WD-40 still we’ll need a more reliable source to build society, industry on it.

Can you digitally store solar power on something like a Blu-ray disc solar panel? If an adaptable laser could activate solar energy stored inside tiny cells, you’d have panel that could hold solar power for a longer time.

Good stuff I am looking at 4.1kw system installed on my home with18- 200watt panels at 21.5% efficient .System cost is around $33,000 USD kinda expensive but everything in Japan cost more.The Electric company will buy back at 50 cents a kilowatt under a 10 year contract .We pull about 3500kilowatts a month(heaters are electric and under charge at night for 2 cents per kilowatt) .So do you think it is worth it.? Thanks and I love the videos keep em going.

@ddnguyen278 Most of our oil doesn’t come from the middle east, but I do agree that our military does affect the worldwide price of oil so in a way it is subsidized, but then it’s taxed at the federal and state level and it’s illegal for gas stations to tell you how much of the price is tax. Realistically, the govs of the world have distorted the price, who knows what a free market price would be. OTOH, oil and NG are both feedstocks to solar panels so that is a subsidy.

@christo930 Actually the true price of gas isn’t reflected at retail, it’s heavily subsided through tax breaks to oil companies and the cost of expensive military campaigns to secure its source. We can disagree about that but I don’t were in the middle east to promote democracy.
I’m not gonna continue this conversation, i made my points, government wants to promote renewables that’s why you get tax breaks, solar is getting cheaper, its a good idea for people who live in southern climates..etc
@ddnguyen278 Gasoline is not subsidized, it is heavily taxed at both the state and federal level. I am not talking about subsidizing research, I am talking about subsidizing individuals who put up solar panels on their home. Without the gov subsidies, solar panels simply wouldn’t be worth it and that is in ca where tiered energy bills make solar more economical because the first 500kw are the cheapest and each subsequent KW is more expensive, so if you can get rid of the last KW you can save $.
@christo930 Same reason why we subsidize gasoline and other energy, to promote consumer usage and spur investment. It’s no conspiracy or surprise, the government want to move away from foreign sources of energy and solar and other renewable are an option.
Technology marches on, sure solar 20 years ago was not competitive but we’re getting new thin film and high volume production which is lowering the cost dramatically.. Hail damage is an issue, but new thin films are more resilient.
@christo930 If you ask me, the real value of solar energy is large scale (commercial) solar thermal electric generation Because heat can be retained better than electricity stored, solar thermal electric is much less intermittent and uses conventional generators with high efficiencies. THe only difference is the source of heat which in this case is solar. Home solar thermal can also be good to cut down on your hot water bills and is much cheaper because there is no electronics or batteries.
