Who’s Afraid of Nuclear Power?
By Solar Expert
Almost every day seems to bring more horror stories on fossil fuels. We’re bombarded with reports about global warming. The price of oil keeps increasing. But with each gloomy media prediction, the nuclear industry can boast: we’ve got the clean answer. This documentary looks at different approaches to nuclear power. It focuses on Australia and Scandinavia – where attitudes couldn’t be more different. While Australia derives 80% of its energy from coal, half of Sweden’s power is nuclear. This doc holds the answers to why we persist with nuclear power.

@MarsMoonEuropa This will not be over in a few months. That`s a big under estimate, I think. You have to see the damage to understand this is a much bigger problem than that. Anyway, all the best to you too!!!
@paisleyyama That’s good to know. Hope everything works out fine, in a few months this should be over. Everyone will move back to houses evacuated.
I think now is defiantly a good time to say goodbye. All the best, MarsMoonEuropa.
@MarsMoon It`s not fear. I`m past fear & I don`t see anyone around me living in fear. Life goes on as usual. But ppl living with the results of the nuclear disaster can`t deny what is going on. Anyway ppl hope for the best, but I don`t wish this on anyone else anywhere in the world especially the children.
@paisleyyama Why is the swimming pool closed?
@paisleyyama I read about the discrimination in the paper, it’s good that you haven’t experienced any of it. Don’t know how widespread it is.
Make sure you hit them over the head with a sledge hammer hard if anyone comes too you and says that.
Listening too you I can feel and understand the fear. It is horrible – the Tsunami was over within minutes but this is persisting for months. You have more than enough time to dwell on fears. Signs of radiation on health does not help.
@paisleyyama I’m getting tired of arguing – we’re actually back to where we began. I hope your wrong about the scientists – metallic tastes are certainly from radiation. But does not necessarily mean levels are high enough to do harm.
I reckon you should be evacuated if radiation is too high. Don’t worry too much, there are a lot of things that are wrong with us that don’t normally get noticed. But be careful anyway.
How many independent scientists are there?
@MarsMoon I haven`t personally witnessed any discrimination but maybe it`s b/c the closer you get to Fukushima we are all in the same boat. There`s no reason to discriminate, but don`t be fooled. Ppl are already getting metalic tastes in their mouths, the radiation is high enough in my town they had to cancel swim classes for 3 weeks, in some towns kids are getting diahrhea & nosebleeds, & in my town kids are getting sharp stomachaches but no other signs of a cold. This is serious!!!
@paisleyyama I agree – seems to truly solve many problems at once. Would be nice if many more stood up for the issue, would be nice to have a chance of happening.
It would also help address the ‘discrimination’ against people exposed to little bits of radiation. I find it horrible how society appears to be shunning people classified as ‘dirty’, when there’s nothing wrong with them. Do you?
@MarsMoon It`s 1 lone politician & obviously it will never happen. Basically he`s trying to make a pt & I think it`s a good 1. He`s trying to say the only way to secure Fukushima`s future & to get the nuclear problem fixed is to put the top politicians there & then things will get done b/c then they`ll have a vested interest but until then it`s all talk. I like his boldness. It`s like a politician standing up & say look if we`re going to send other kids to war lets hit the front lines ourselves.
@paisleyyama What do you think of the talk of making Fukushima the capital of Japan?
I know I said we should stop talking, but I just read it and found it very interesting. Thought I’d ask you.
Nuclear Power, people shudder at the word,if they only understood what it really means. Nuclear Power is part of the solution and it is the best we have for now. If things keep going the way they are we wont be able to survive. Making the jump from Fossil Fuel all the way too for example, Fusion Energy is possible, but may come too late.
@paisleyyama Yeah, that does seam quite small – especially coming from an almost entirely christian society! But all cultures have their merits.
Ironic considering they almost all preach the same things – love, being good, have good faith, don’t lie, ect. ect.!
Probably a good place to stop talking. Thanks – learnt a lot about Japanese Culture and what it’s like to be at Fukushima – interesting discussion. Tchau.
Terra reactors.
@MarsMoon No, depending on how you calculate it, 1% to less than 1/2% of Japanese are Christians and my immediate family (not extended) is in this tiny minority.
@paisleyyama *karma
@paisleyyama I don’t know if he should have resigned – but people promoting Nuclear Power at a high level probably do feel a great responsibility because they need to promise the world. I would be shocked if he committed suicide though.
But in Buddhist Culture, it is said the probability of life is like the chance of on millions of grains of rice falling on a needle. With life being such a miracle, isn’t it too much to lose? You have to earn reincarnation don’t you?
